Hi, I'm Álvaro.

I studied Aerospace Engineering at UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), specializing in Aerospace Propulsion. I started investing in public markets during COVID’s -40% drop and forced myself to study Finances, Economy and Investment Management since then. The following years I started publishing economy-related articles like ‘After-Pandemic Markets: The Ugly Side of the Economy’ and ‘Hyperinflation Led by Money Printers in the US Economy’ - I believe no one read them back then. You can find some of my essays in here. I also recently started a newsletter to publish essays more often, where I’ll talk about tech, people ops, startups and product management.

During my two summer internships, I got so bored that I started learning programming. I never looked back. I am now a self-taught programmer, which has become necessary to keep building Clous. I started by learning the programming language syntax of HTML, CSS, JS, Python and PHP. I then went on to build websites for local commerces around my neighbourhood, where I was able to apply my UI design skills acquired with 3 previous side-projects: launching a cryptocurrency, drop-shipping and fashion distribution for student residencies.

I’m interested in AI architectures in modern software for business process automation, as well as product management and UX. These days I’m also thinking about how Generative AI changes the way people interact with computers, and how the architectures of intelligent applications are fundamentally different to traditional applications.When I grow up I want to run a public company. If not, other career paths I’m pursuing is Engineering Management and Product/Project management. Above all, I have a passion for leading teams.Since January 2023 I’m dedicated to one mission: make hiring suck less. My self-taught path has driven me to value talent as the key asset in any organization. That is why I’m so obsessed to provide our clients with the best talent possible.

I haven’t built a Github portfolio (except the application I’m building at Clous) nor contributed to any relevant repos. I did publish all the projects I built to learn programming in the early days though.I’ve been fortunate to have been advised by brilliant HR, technology and innovation professionals while doing customer discovery; and currently advised by Mª José Trujillo and Vicente Ramirez Molina.Prior to my time at UPM, I attended a private British school called King’s College of Murcia, leading the Cervantes house (we were grouped by houses like in Harry Potter) during my last 2 years. Before going to college, I attended 2 years at a public school because I intended to join the Spanish Army. I finally decided to pursue greater ambitions, achieving a ‘Matrícula de Honor’, which granted me a full 1-year scholarship in any Spanish college of my choice.

In my spare time, I enjoy learning design (I’m still a beginner), watching sports (specially soccer) and listening to podcasts like TWIST, All-in, 20VC and Saastr.
